Kauai Makes Headlines With Highest Sale In The State
The buyer of a 15-acre oceanfront Hawaii estate sold for a record breaking $46.1 million and put Kauai in first place for the highest sale in 2018.  The Buyer is partnership owned by the majority owner of the NHL’s Vegas Golden Knights and former chairman of the board of Fidelity National Financial Inc., according to public documents.
The listing price for the estate was $70 million and they took a $23.9 million dollar cut to sell.  The sales price just edged by $1 million out the amount Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg paid in September to add to his 700 acres on Kauai.

Southwest Airlines Update
Southwest Airlines’ service to Hawaii from California may begin in as little as two months, according to a recent interview with CEO Gary Kelly.
It’s all hanging on the issuance of a ETOPS certificate allowing them to fly over the Pacific and Kelly said that they are “very close” to gaining this approval, and expects to begin service during the peak winter season. Due to high demand for these new routes, service could begin weeks, not months, after sales begin.  “When we publish our schedule, it would not be unusual in a market like Hawaii for us to sell those flights out.”

The first phase of the airline’s Hawaii service will be routes from four California cities: Oakland, San Diego, San Jose and Sacramento. It plans on launching interisland service after it builds up frequency of its Mainland routes.
Hawaii may also experience the “Southwest Effect” – a phenomenon that brings low fares from the carrier’s competitors when it enters a new market. Kelly said that the airline’s competitive pricing, along with its high brand recognition, will make the new routes successful.

New Kauai Playground Makes The News
Anaian Hou playground marks the realization of a vision conceived more than five years ago by Hawai‘i Volcanic Beverages husband and wife co-founders and long time residents, Jason and Channon Donovan. Built almost entirely from recycled plastic and locally sourced non-toxic natural building materials, the new playground at Anaina Hou Community Park in Kilauea will take its keiki and adult explorers on a journey through the creation and history of the Hawaiian Islands.
In the center of the playground, there’s an impressive erupting volcano climbing structure. Next, explorers can imagine navigating the Pacific Ocean with the stars as their guide like the original Polynesian settlers did on a double-hulled Hawaiian ocean sailing canoe. Then, there’s an extensive multi-level ahupua‘a (mountain-to-ocean land area) themed structure ready for adventure. There are also sugarcane era trains, and many other fun surprises in store for young and old alike to discover together.
