Southwest Arrives in Honolulu
On Saint Patrick’s day Southwest made its first landing with a planefull of passengers in Honolulu International Airport. Flight #6808 flew in from Oakland CA, the plane has the capacity for 175 passengers and it was 94% full.
When the passengers debarked the plane they did so right off the tarmac and there were traditional lei greetings and Hula Dancers, just like the old days!

What is next for Southwest is their service between Oakland and Maui on April 7.  Then San Jose and Honolulu on May 5 followed by San Jose and Honolulu on May 26.

Interisland service will start on April 28 four times daily in each direction between Honolulu and Kahului. Stay tuned Kauai; Southwest has said that it will announce service between Hawaii and San Diego, Sacramento, and interisland service to Lihue in the “coming weeks.”

Hawaiian Airlines Reduces Interisland Fares And Adds New Flight
Hawaiian Airlines has reduced its interisland fares to as low as $98 for a round trip ticket.  Before you were lucky to grab one at $149 and believe me I know this to be true!
The demand to fly to Hawaii has been so great the Hawaiian added a third flight from Hawaii and San Francisco.  Service is scheduled to begin Oct. 16 and will use the A321neo aircraft, with the inaugural flight planned to depart Honolulu at 9:15 p.m.

Kiahuna Plantation Drive Gets A New Turn Lane

If you have been to Keokis or Starbucks in Poipu Beach you’ve taken Kiahuna Plantation Drive to get into the Poipu Beach Shopping Center.  You need to continue north on this road to get to Kiahuna Golf Course, Pili Mai, Kiahuna Golf Village and Wainani.

For many years the only thing past the shopping center was the Golf Course and the Kiahuna Golf Village which is a subdivision built in 1980 and has 90 homesites on it.  Traffic has increased when the Wainani subdivision and Pili Mai Condominiums came on board.

I live in the Kiahuna Golf Village subdivision and I noticed that Kiahuna Plantation Drive started getting busier but never close to anything that I experienced living in California.  But I was thrilled to learn that they are creating a right hand turn land and I shot a little video to update you.

Two Day Real Estate Class Interesting Insight
Once a year I’ll further my education by taking a different class and this year I took a 2 day course on Real Estate Negotiations.  I’ve been negotiating for years of course, and have been very successful, but I never want to miss a chance to learn.  The class was at the beautiful Koloa Landing in Poipu Beach, I had seen their meeting rooms and was excited to see how this resort hosted such a large event.  They did so beautifully and they had two events going on.

For most of the two days the teachers touch point was the agent that is an “Order Taker” and not a negotiator. This would refer to an agent that is just following their clients orders and giving no thought or council on how to structure or time the request, or should it even be made at all?  An Order Taker can be a new agent or an agent that has been in the business for 20 years but has just been repeating their first year of real estate 20 times.  (That’s the teachers line and the room just rocked when he said it.)

To be a skilled negotiator it’s not about crushing the other side, which in fact can work against you. Getting crushed might result in your side “winning” but it can also lead to one heck of a smoldering resentment that could kill your deal at the first opportunity, or hurt your chances at getting any kind of cooperation during escrow.  But striving for a Win/Win is also NOT about you folding and accepting whatever is thrown at you.

For the Buyer/Seller that wants a skilled negotiator and not an order taker requires that they trust the Realtor they are working with.  That’s where the dilemma starts:  Trusting someone whose livelihood depends on commissions earned.
