Southwest Adds Another Route
Interisland service to Hilo will be starting soon Southwest announced.  Hilo will become the fifth Hawaiian airport, and the second location for the Big Island, in the ever-expanding Southwest Airlines service to Hawaii.
Service to Hilo will be limited to interisland. That means customers can’t fly directly from one of the four California gateways — Oakland, San Jose, San Diego or Sacramento — into Hilo.

What about Kauai? Southwest has announced that they will be flying to Kauai and an inside source of mine said it will be around July 1 of this year.  When I went to Southwest’s site they have Kauai as “Coming Soon”!!

Kauai Real Estate Year To Date Review
We’ve got the Year To Date data for the first four months of this year on real estate sales for Kauai.  We see that the number of sales are down pretty much across the board but the prices for Condominiums and Land are up.  This is not surprising.  There was a slow down from September to January but the market has been gaining momentum from February on, those numbers won’t show up until later on.

Oahu, Maui and Big Island Real Estate Update
We’ll review the other islands activity year to date in this section of my blog.

On Oahuthere were 318 single-family homes sold in April, a 10% increase from 289 homes sold during the same month last year. The median price of those homes was $766,750, a decline of 2.9% from $790,000 in April 2018.
The median price of a condominium last month was $418,950, which was a 0.7% increase from $416,000 in April 2018. But the number of condos sold fell to 476 units, a 13% decrease from 547 units sold in April 2018.

On Mauithe median price of a single-family home was $819,500 last month, compared to $725,000 in April 2018. Sales of single-family homes, however, fell to 76 homes sold in April, a drop of 17.4% from 92 homes sold during the same month last year.
Condominium sales on Maui dropped 22.2% in April to 137 units sold, from 176 units sold during the same month last year. The median price of a condo on Maui also fell, by 13.1% to $440,000 in April, from $506,113 in April 2018.

On the Big Island there were 209 single-family homes sold last month, a 5.03% increase from 199 sold in April 2018. The median price of those homes was $355,000, a decrease of 8.69% from $388,800.
The median price of a condo on the Big Island last month was $418,500, an increase of 12.35% from $372,500. The number of condos sold increased by 20% to 108 units, from 90 units in April 2018.
