Real Estate Update

This week we had a really decent amount of properties go under contract, 28 in total and of that 10 of them were condominiums.  For a complete list of what went into escrow, went under contract and what sold CLICK HERE FOR SPREADSHEET

Transient Vacation Rentals Bill Signed Into Law

On Monday Mayor Carvalho signed Bill 2364 which amends the transient vacation rentals to include those on agricultural land that are outside of the VDA area.  Several years ago properties that were outside of the VDA area but had been operating as vacation rentals had to apply for a Non-Conforming Use Certificate but it did not include those properties that were on agricultural land.  So now they do.

Checklists for requirements that must be met are available at the Kauai Planning Department in Lihue and they must apply by October 15, 2010.  If they apply after that there will be an application fee of $1,500 applied.

For more detailed information see ordinance 2364 which is on the planning department website for complete details.

Na Pali Trail Temporarily Closes

The state Department of Land and Natural Resources will close Na Pali Coast State Wilderness Park on the North Shore from Hanakapi‘ai to Kalalau Valley for a multi-faceted improvement effort that includes a rockfall mitigation project above the Ho‘ole‘a waterfall and shoreline sea cave areas.

The closure is planned from Sept. 7 to Oct. 31.

The park will reopen for public use afterward.

September 5th Kauai Marathon Gearing Up

September 5, 2010 is the date for the Kauai Marathon and news is it’s turning out to be a big event with over 1,500 runners registered.  The race starts at the Sheraton and all the surrounding resorts fill up with people making a vacation out of the race that only seems to get more and more popular as each year goes on.  At one point the sponsors said they would have been happy with 500 entries and now they are at three times that amount.  Even if your not a runner (like I’m not) it’s a lot of fun to be in the midst of the event enjoying the camaraderie.

From the starting line on Poipu Road, runners follow a counter-clockwise out-and-back loop course that runs into the island’s interior and then back out again to Poipu.  Runners get the chance to run through Kauai’s famous Tunnel of Trees, the town of Omao, Lawai and Kalaheo.  On the way back from Kalaheo runners are treated to incredible views of the Pacific Ocean as they run along the Kukui’ula Bypass road and finishing at the Sheraton in Poipu.  There will also be a post-race party for all finishers, right on the oceanfront of the resort.
