Poipu Beach Real Estate- Last week I sold Koloa Landing units #1-204 for $1,929,000 and #1-206 for $1,325,000.  Unit #1-206 is a 2 bedroom 2 bath ocean view unit, all units have central air and high end appointments.
Unit #1-204 is 3/3 ocean view unit that I think I could retire in.  The living room floor to ceiling sliding glass doors retract into the wall and the 641 square feet of wrap around lanai became a seamless part of the living space.  Both units were single level and have elevator access.

Kauai Council-member Arrested For Operating Drug Ring
One of our Kauai Councilmembers was arrested for operating a methamphetamine distribution ring here on Kauai.  There were 11 other people also taken in as well that are all allegedly a part of a organized crime group known as the United Samoan Organization, or “USO Gang”.
The Kauai Police have been tracking this since November of last year when the Councilmember was arrested after he fled from the police and flung a bag of methamphetamines out of his car which KPD was able to recover.
The arrest came as a result of a federal indictment filed Feb. 13, charging that the councilmember ran the drug ring while he was “a sitting member of the Kaua‘i County Council and the vice chair of its Public Safety and Human Services Committee.”  He remains is custody of the KPD pending his transfer to U.S. District Court in Honolulu.
There had been many months of speculation in the Kauai government circles that the councilmember had a serious drug problem.  He still retains his seat on the council and will do so unless he resigns; recall is prohibited under the charter.  However…. there is a grass roots campaign that is gaining momentum by the day to get him out of office.  I wouldn’t be surprised if it happens soon.

Lori Vallow Going Back To Idaho
The Idaho mother, and short time Kauai resident, Lori Vallow waived her right to an extradition hearing and is going back to Idaho to face two felony counts of child abandonment.  She and her husband have made national news when they left Idaho and set up residence here on Kauai.  Lori Vallow was arrested after not complying with an Idaho court order to produce her two children by January 30, 2020.  They have not been seen since last September.
Her attorneys tried twice to get her $5 million dollar bail reduced to $10K and after the second failed attempt Lori decided to waive her extradition hearing which would confirm her identity and allow KPD to work with the Idaho Police to get her back to Idaho.
Lori’s husband, Chad Daybell, was filmed outside his Villas On The Prince townhouse rental with a moving company that had a truck full of their belongings.

New Housing Project In Lihue Breaks Ground
A 22 apartment housing complex for women in need broke ground last week.  Located on Pua Loke Street the project was the collaboration of local agencies to help provide shelter and services for homeless women with families on Kauai.
The complex will have a laundry facility and an onsite office for support services including local organizations and county agencies.
This project has been on a fast track and should be done by this summer.

Kauai Real Estate Year To Date Market Report
With the start of our new month lets take a look at how our real estate sales are Year To Date compared to this same time last year.

The number of sales were down compared to this same time one year ago.  However prices are up overall in Poipu, Lihue and the North Shore, the exception being homes and land on the South Shore.

A shocker were the prices on the North Shore!  After last years rains and the subsequent price and inventory decrease they are starting to come back to life.  The number of properties sold is still lower except for condominiums.  Look at the land and home prices, up triple digits!

If you have any questions on how this information relates to your particular area of interest I’m happy to answer your questions.  These numbers are general in nature and might not reflect a property that you are focused on.
