Poipu Beach Real Estate- I’m excited to share my new Poipu Sands listing, for the first time in over 3 years a three-bedroom unit at the Poipu Sands is available. In the whole complex only two were ever built. Located in building 4 you are steps away from the Grand Hyatt and Shipwrecks Beach. I particularly love the downstairs lanai which spans the entire length of the condominium. The entire upstairs is a master bedroom suite with it’s own private lanai. With 1,772 sq ft of living space you could easily live here full time. Currently this is a terrific vacation rental, contact me for more information on this unit and enjoy the video!

Aloha OC!! United Airlines Adds Hawaii Route
Starting on May 6, 2021 United Airlines will start a new route connecting John Wayne Airport in Orange County, CA to Honolulu International. Tickets went on sale February 13. The flight times are great too, leaving the OC at 8:30 a.m. and getting to Oahu by 11:30.
United previously announced new flights between Chicago to Kona and New York to Maui.
UA’s vice president Patrick Quale had this to say about Hawaii travel: “We know customers are dreaming of summer getaways and we want United to be their top choice for travel to Hawaii.”
Hawaii Foreclosure News
Foreclosure activity in Hawaii last month followed the national trend downward, with 73% fewer foreclosure filings of any kind, compared to pre-pandemic January 2020. The question is what happens after federal foreclosure moratoriums and stimulus programs end? Our Governor Ige just extended the eviction moratorium to April.
In January 2021 there were 32 properties in the state with foreclosure filings compared to 118 in January 2020. Nationally there was a 86% drop in filings from the same time a year ago.
The robust housing market will help to ward off foreclosures as well.
Bill Moving Forward To Have Uniform Testing For Hawaii Travel
House Bill 1286 passed through two House committees this last week; the House Committee on Pandemic and Disaster Preparedness and the Committee on Labor and Tourism. The next step is for it to go through two more House committees for consideration. This new Bill would establish a uniform travel protocol for travel to Hawaii and interisland travel, it also would not allow the Mayors of each island to opt out. Kauai has had the strictest travel rules and so this has been a topic of conversation.
Here are the bullet points of the House Bill that is being considered:
- Visitors/residents could bypass the 10 day quarantine with a negative COVID test taken 3 days prior to travel to Hawaii or interisland.
- Travelers who have not received their test results prior to arrival to test out of quarantine if they take a second post-arrival test.
- Mayors of each island are not allowed to “Opt Out” of this uniform travel program.
Now the bill will go through two more committees. To follow this bill click here: House Bill 1286
***As a related bit of information: our Governor Ige has stated that at this time he is not going to allow people to opt out of pretesting or quarantine if they have received a COVID vaccine at this time. He stated it was too early to consider this.
Possible New Condominium Project In Poipu Beach
There is a new condominium project in Poipu Beach that could potentially be coming available. The location is on Kiahuna Plantation Drive right in between Pili Mai and Wainani. Being able to build condominiums on this land is not new, for decades this land has been zoned to be able to do this and has come close to being done a couple of times in the past.
The property is a little over 25 acres located on the Kiahuna Golf Course. The proposed project will be 279 two, three and four bedroom condominiums (no garages) and will be built out in four different phases. There will be a couple of swimming pools and a club house, initial prices $795K to $995K. All of this information is subject to change at any time.
It’s important to note here that the buyer/developer of this new condominium project has not completed his purchase of the land and no sales can start happening at this point. The property is listed at $18 Million, it previously had been purchased for $6,700,000 in April of 2014. I don’t know what the property is in escrow for only that it went into escrow on November 10, 2020.
