Kauai Real Estate SOLD and NEW listings Island Wide! Add comments

Kauai Real Estate Update- The North Shore saw two huge sales this last week:  both properties are located in Hanalei and one listed at $10.560 million and it sold before it ever hit the MLS.  A $15 million dollar home on Weke Road closed for $14 million this week as well.  Huge amount of activity island wide last week, for a complete list click here:  Kauai Real Estate Sales October 19 to 26th.

Poipu Beach Real Estate Update-I represented two Buyers who made an offer on an oceanfront listing of mine at Poipu Shores and their offer was accepted.  Earlier this year I had listed, and sold, a unit right next to this listing with the same floor plan.  I just love this location, not only does this ground floor 2/2 have massive ocean views but it has a really large lawn in front of it.  It’s also an extra wide unit with elevator access.  Currently there’s nothing else like it on the market.

State Secures 8 Testing Sites For Interisland Kauai and Maui Travel
Kauai and Maui counties implemented a pre-travel testing program for inter-island travelers on October 15 but where to get tested was a bit of a blur.  Those traveling interisland to Kauai or Maui counties now have the option to get tested for Covid-19 three days prior to travel to avoid the quarantine, Hawaii Island currently does not have a pre-travel testing option for travelers arriving from other islands.  Travelers must receive a Nucleic Acid Amplification Test from a certified CLIA lab in order to be eligible to bypass the quarantine.
Here are the trusted testing partners for interisland travel: Clinical Laboratories of Hawaii, CVS Health(Longs), Hawaii Pacific Health, Kaiser Permanente, Minit Medical, Walgreens, Urgent Care Hawaii and Vault Health.

Hawaii Has Worst Unemployment In U.S.A.
Not surprisingly, Hawaii had the worst unemployment recovery rate of any state in the month of September.  The Aloha State ranked at the very bottom of the list with a September unemployment rate of 15%, a 395% change between September 2019 and September 2020, and a 380% change in unemployment between January and September of this year.
Hawaii’s 15.3% unemployment rate was followed by Nevada, with a 12.6% unemployment rate and California with a 10.8% unemployment rate.
However, with Hawaii’s gradual reopening of tourism officials hope residents working in the tourism industry to be able to start returning to work.

Honolulu Now Has “Quarantine Hotels”
The County of Honolulu has three “Quarantine Hotels” with a total of 452 rooms located in the Pearl Hotel Waikiki, Park Shore Hotel and Waikiki Beachside.  All are being managed by the Department of Health and funded by the CARES Acts funds.
How it works is for those residents that test positive, or come in close contact with someone who tested positive, they have a secure place to quarantine.  It’s pretty typical here for large families to live together, this has been one of the largest contributing factors to the spike in COVID cases.

Case in point is the island of Lanai; last week it started with one positive case from a local that had traveled off island, as of Monday it was up to 79 positive cases which is serious for such a small island with limited medical facilities.  Lanai has a population of 2,802 people.  The rapid rise in the number of cases was attributed to large social gatherings that had more people than allowed.  Governor Ige just approved a Stay At Home order for two weeks and travel is restricted, leaving your home is limited to essential travel.

Kauai Police Arrest 14 For COVID Violations
Last week KPD arrested 14 people for violating the quarantine stay at home order, 6 of those 14 were local residents.  All individuals who are arrested are subject to up to one year in jail and/or up to $5,000 in fines.  The majority of the individuals arrested were not at their listed quarantine addresses during routine checks and were subsequently arrested and booked.  For some of the individuals, this was not their first violation of the order.

All but one of these individuals have been released on bail and some of the mainland travelers have since returned to their state of origin.

Hawaiian Air Adding More Routes
This December Hawaiian Airlines will reinstate their Lihue with Los Angeles and Oakland, and Kahului with San Diego and San Francisco routes.
Also in December look for Hawaiian’s twice-weekly nonstop service between Honolulu’s International Airport and Boston Logan International Airport, as well as thrice-weekly service between Honolulu and New York’s John F. Kennedy International. In addition to the East Coast routes, the airline will resume daily nonstop service between Honolulu and Long Beach Airport in California in December.
Alaska Air Also Adding Back Routes
Alaska Airlines, which resumed flights to Hawaii this month, said it’s seen strong recent bookings to the islands as pandemic-weary consumers seek trips to enjoy “work from anywhere” arrangements with employers.  They are now looking to also reinstate more flights and said that in November they will be up to a total of 19, that is down from their previous 33 flights a day.
The airline said that the middle seat block out is supposed to end in the middle of January but that will be based on the number of cases.  This decision they stated is based on recent scientific studies that show when people wear masks during flights, their chance of getting Covid-19 from an infected person in the next seat are “extremely low.”
