Visitor spending and arrivals increased on Hawaii’s four major Islands, with Hawaii Island leading the state with year-over-year growth in spending, according to the Hawaii Tourism Authority.

Jim Nabors, Hawaii Resident, Passes Away At 87
Jim Nabors, who perhaps is best known as “Gomer Pyle” on the Andy Griffith Show, passed away on November 30 at the age of 87. What you might not know is that Jim loved Hawaii and had been a full time resident since 1978 after visiting here repeatedly since the 1960’s.

In his words:  “I just walked off that plane and knew this is where I wanted to be.  It was the air and the friendship and the friendliness and the people, you know.  I just knew, there’s something inside me that told me ‘Hey, you’re gonna end up here,'” Nabors said. “I love this place. I love everything about it.”

After falling in love with Hawaii he sold his Bel Air home in California and bought a 500 acre macadamia ranch in Maui. He became active in performing over here from then on. He headlined a Polynesian production at the now-gone Hilton Hawaiian Village Dome, he showcased his operatic voice in a mix of Broadway tunes and island faves, kicking off an era of big-name entertainers in Waikiki. For 10 years, from 1997 to 2006, he headlined “A Merry Christmas With Friends & Nabors” at the Hawaii Theatre. Jim’s favorite charity was the Hawaiian Humane Society where he was generous with his contributions.
Jim married his partner Stan Cadwallader in 2013 after being together for 38 years. Stan was a firefighter in Honolulu when they met in 1975. They had sold the Maui farm and were living in his oceanfront home near Diamond Head on Oahu. Jim had been admitted to Queen’s on November 22 and had gone back after Thanksgiving for testing, Nabors asked that he be allowed to return home. Stan was by his side when he passed away on November 30th.

Kauai Real Estate 2016 and 2017 Comparison
We have 11 months of 2017 Kauai Real Estate data to compare to where we are at compared to this same time last year.

Overall the number of properties that have sold island wide is up and are still on the rise when we drill down to the South Shore, East Side and North Shore.
The Median Price however bumps around a bit. The North Shore is maintaining there over $1 million Median Price and the South Shore has bumped up their price as well by almost 8% from this same time last year. Condo prices look like they are down but the leasehold lower priced Kiahuna Plantation sales are skewing those numbers. The Wainani lots in the higher $200K range have dropped the Median Price on the land prices as well.
