Southwest Airlines Gets Temporary Permit For Honolulu Airport

Southwest Airlines moves yet another step closer to Hawaii. They have been issued a revocable permit for airline operations at Honolulu’s Daniel K. Inouye International Airport.

Southwest Airlines said they will launch ticket sales in Hawaii sometime this year but that there is no news regarding to date of their entry into the Islands. They stated that they are continuing the work needed to be done on the mainland and with the State of Hawaii to enter our market and that their goal continues to be to be flying here by the end of the year.

Air Canada Launces Vancouver to Kauai Flights <img src=”image.gif” alt="kauairealestate“/>

Air Canada announced that they are launching a new winter service from Vancouver to Kauai in December 2019 with its new Boeing 737 Max-8 fleet. This is very positive news for us because Canadian citizens are our number one international real estate investor and vacationer here on Kauai.

The airline also announced it is doubling the frequency of its flights from Western Canada to Hawaii. All flights from Western Canada to Honolulu, Maui and Kona will be serviced by the airline’s new Boeing fleet. Air Canada has 61 orders for the 737 Max, which will be delivered by 2021. Eighteen are due to enter the fleet by the end of 2018.

February Real Estate Report for Oahu, Maui and Big Island

Last week I reported on the Kauai Real Estate sales for the month of February compared to the same time last year and this week I have the data for Oahu, Maui and the Big Island.

On Oahu there were 385 condominiums sold on Oahu last month, an increase of 6.2% from 362 sold in February of last year. The median price of those condos was $409,000, which was 6.2% more than the median price in February 2017, which was $385,000.
Sales of single-family homes, however, declined by 1.8% to 217 sales in February, from 221 sales during the same month last year. The median price of a single-family home on Oahu last month was $772,500, which was an increase of 2.3% from $755,000 in February 2017.

On Maui there were 95 single-family homes sold on Maui in February, an increase of 50.8% from the 63 homes sold during the same month in 2017. The median price of those homes was $685,000 last month, an increase of 1.8% from $672,575 in February 2017.
Condominium sales on Maui increased 8.9% to 122 units sold in February, from 112 units sold during the same month last year. The median price of a condo on Maui last month was $472,500, an increase of 1.6% from $465,000 in February 2017.

There were 152 single-family homes sold on the Big Island in February, which was 8.4% fewer than the 166 houses that sold during the same month last year. The median price last month was $327,500, a 4.9% decline from $344,250 in February 2017.
The median price of a condominium last month was $332,500, which was a 14% drop from $387,000 in February 2017. The only increase in February was in the number of condo units sold, which rose 7.4% to 58 sales from 54 sales last year.
