Visitor Missing Near Queens Bath, Rescue Called Off
Sad news.  The search for a missing woman in waters off Queen’s Bath in Princeville was suspended Saturday afternoon following a three-day, multi-agency effort. Yayun Cheng, 23, of California, is being reported as Kauai’s seventh drowning for 2018.
According to a preliminary report, Cheng was attempting to climb the rocks near the area known as Queen’s Bath shortly before noon on Wednesday, when a wave came up and swept her out to sea. She was last seen unresponsive in the water.  Despite a three-day air, land and sea-based search with a team of rescuers she could not be found.
Information on the dangers of our waters being circulated to our tourists has been stepped up over the last several years along with available websites such as:  Kauai Explorer

Kauai Coffee New Tour and Second Location
A second Kauai Coffee Shop will be set up at the Coconut Marketplace in Waipouli, it will be the first location that is not onsite in Hanapepe and being in Kapaa is a smart move.
Also in the works is a new Kauai Coffee tour that will utilize a special passenger truck that is scheduled to operate once approvals from the Kauai Planning Commission are secured.  Passengers will be driven to a location near the Kukuiolono Golf Course and there will be a route that takes guests from the mountain to the sea where Kauai Coffee has its fields. This will be an exciting addition to the Kauai Coffee operation.
The open house drew a steady flow of patrons who enjoyed free sampling of Kauai Coffee and specials from the visitor center gift shop, and indulged in activities and games. A special guest was Santa Claus in Paradise who flitted between his throne next to the plantation-style Norfolk and the visitor center coffee cup attraction.

Oahu, Maui and Big Island Real Estate Update
Last week I posted on my blog the Year To Date real estate activity and if you missed that click here for the information: Lynda Gill Kauai Year To Date Real Estate Statistics

This week we’ll look at the other islands.

The Median Price of a single-family home on Oahu in November was $797,000, an increase of 3% from November 2017. But the number of homes sold fell 13.3% to 288 houses, from 332 houses sold in November 2017.  It was noted that more than half of the homes for sale are priced above $800,000 and nearly half of all condos on the market are priced above $475,000 and that more inventory in the lower price ranges is needed.

The Median price of a condominium on Maui in November was $528,650, which was an increase of 32.3% from $399,500 during the same month last year.  The number of condos sold declined by 6.3% to 120 units, from 128 units in November 2017.
The Median price of a single-family home on Maui last month was $740,398, which was 7.6% higher than the Median price of $688,000 in November 2017. The number of single-family homes increased by 4.6% to 76 homes sold, from 73 sold last year.

But on the Big Island the Median price of a single-family home in November was $358,000, which was a decline of 3.57% from $371,250 during the same month last year. That was based on sales of 180 homes, which was 4.26% fewer than the 188 homes that sold in November 2017.
The Median price of a condo on the Big Island last month was $339,000, which was just 0.89% higher than the median price in November 2017, which was $336,000. That was based on sales of 49 units, which was a 22.22% decrease from the 63 units that sold in November 2017.
