Our local magazine MidWeek Kauai took a poll from the local readers on their business top picks, kind of a “Peoples Choice Award”. There are 85 categories and they range from local eateries to best Physician. This magazine is published every Wednesday and is mass mailed to everyone on Kauai and has a newsstand presence as well.
Under the Category “Best Real Estate Company” my office; Pacific Ocean Properties came in number 1 !!!! Also in the category “Best Place to Work” the Outrigger Kiahuna Plantation came in at number one and “Local Restaurants” Plantation Gardens came in number one (this is the restaurant that’s at the Kiahuna Plantation).
So we have a little nucleous of “Number Ones” right here at the Kiahuna Plantation.
Kauai Real Estate Update
We had a good week for sales and properties going under contract this last week. Summertime can be a little soft in sales for some sectors of our market (second homes, vacation condos etc.). Here is a complete list of what sold, what went into escrow and what came on the market CLICK HERE FOR SPREADSHEET
Three “Holes In One” in Two Days
Okay so I love to golf (somedays…..) and this is why I’m including this story in my blog. On Friday a visitor from Ohio got a hole in one on a 331 yard par 4 at the Kiahuna Golf Course. On the same day another hole in one was achieved at the same course on a par 3 by one of our local residents.
On Saturday at Puakea Golf Course a local resident used a 5 iron on a 200 yard hole and she also nailed a hole in one.
Obviously “Holes In One’s” are in season over here so grab your clubs and catch the next flight over!
Change In Kukui’ula Affordable Housing Agreement
The Kauai County Council approved significant revisions to affordable-housing conditions agreed upon five years ago by the developers of Kukui’ula which is a massive project here on the south shore. The original agreement had 75 affordable leased homes and buyers would accrue 1% equity every year. After 90 years the owners would own them outright. The revised agreement has them accruing 4% every year with full ownership after 25 years. If the home is sold within that 25 year period the new buyer would go through the same 4% per year process.
The Kukui‘ula developers still have three years to build the homes and the economic crisis — the main reason alleged by the developers for asking for revisions — could be different then, they said.
Hawaiian Airlines Speeds Up Plane Order
Hawaiian Airlines announced that they are hitting the accelerator pedal on the delivery of an Airbus A330-200 by two years anticipation of added Asia travel.
“Having recently announced new service to Asia and recognizing that further opportunities for new flights may develop in the next year, we have been fortunate to be able to accelerate the delivery of one of our A330s on very short notice,” Hawaiian Airlines’ President and CEO Mark Dunkerley said in a statement.
These new birds will have high resolution LCE touch screen monitors in each seatback, will carry 294 passengers. Hawaiian Airlines has firm commitments to acquire 10 A330s (including two aircraft already in service) during the next four years and purchase rights for five additional aircraft. This is part of an agreement totaling more than $5 billion with the aircraft manufacturer for up to 27 aircrafts during the next decade. The first two aircrafts are being leased and most of the remaining Hawaiian Airlines is planning on financing but has yet not released details on those future financing plans.
