Kauai Real Estate Update-  Sold |  4020 Pai Street Kalaheo $999,000
My Sellers and I just closed on their property which I had helped them purchase in 2012.  At that time I saw this as a unique property in Kalaheo and saw its potential for more than just two homes on a spacious lot. I guided them through the CPR process, collaborating with a local lawyer and trusted contacts. Five years later, they sold one home for $399,240 and the other in 2024 for $999,000, far surpassing the $600,000 purchase price.  My clients thoughtful decisions not only benefited them financially but also made a positive impact on the community by opening doors for two other families to achieve homeownership.  To see this home click here;  4020 Pai Street, Kalaheo.

Hawaiian Air and Alaska Merger Update
The deadline for the DOJ to block the merger between Hawaiian and Alaska was extended, twice.  The third official date for them to respond (August 20th) came and went without a comment from the DOJ, so is this good or bad news?
It’s confusing news, especially when Alaska Airlines changed their press release.
Here is what they originally said; “The time period for the U.S. Department of Justice to complete its regulatory investigation of the proposed combination of Alaska Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines under the HSR Act has expired.”

The statement was revised later that day to read; “The time period during which the parties were prohibited from closing under the HSR Act has expired. The government’s review is ongoing.”
The key sentence being “The government’s review is ongoing.”
The “HSR” act is the “Hart-Scott-Rodino Antitrust Improvements Act” from 1976.  It establishes a timeframe for antitrust agencies to review and act on pending mergers.
Where things stand now; the ball is in the court of the DOT who must approve the merger and it's possible they will have conditions that need to be met.

So while the DOJ’s silence is not bad news it doesn’t mean they have moved on.  Stay tuned.

Hurricane Hone Does No Damage To Kauai
Category 1 Hurricane Hone hit the southern tip of the Big Island on Sunday morning, by that evening the storm had been downgraded into a tropical storm.  While it never made landfall, the storms bands reached all across the state with Kauai being impacted the least.
Across the state about 18,000 people were without power, it’s not clear how much of that was voluntarily shut off by the power companies themselves.
Here on Kauai we received notices from KIUC saying that they may shut off power if the winds get too strong.
Flights on the Big Island were cancelled and shelters were open.  As a matter of precaution Gov. Josh Green issued a State of Emergency.
I was at the beach on Sunday morning and took a two videos that were one hour a part.  You can see how quickly things turned for the better.  I also have some footage of two Monk Seals that were on the point in between Poipu and the Marriott beaches.  Both were males, the one that is 10 years old came up on the beach at 7:30 and his buddy, who is 9 years old, joined him at 8:00 a.m.
The Seal Patrol were right on it and had them roped off to protect them from the public.

Annual Kauai Marathon This Sunday
One of Poipu’s biggest, and most cherished events, is the Kauai Marathon which is in it’s 15th year.  Started in 2009 by a Poipu Beach business owner this event was popular right away and as the years go on it continues to grow.
Last year there were a total of 1,832 participants that came from 49 states and 11 countries.  About half of those runners were from the state of Hawaii.
The race starts at 6 a.m. in Poipu and you can do a full or half marathon.  The full marathon goes through Kalaheo and both courses end in Poipu Beach.
The locals go all out for this event with hula dancing along the route, water stations, cheering sections and much more.
If you are in Poipu this Sunday;  Kiahuna Plantation Drive and parts of Poipu Road will be closed by 5:15 a.m.  The race will be over around 10 a.m. with the roads gradually opening up after the races starts at 6 a.m.  There will be shuttle buses available from the various parking spots.
