California To Honolulu Route Will Premier Hawaiian Airlines Dreamliner
Tickets for the fuel-efficient Dreamliner 787 are on sale now for travel starting on April 15, 2024 between Honolulu and San Francisco, starting May 14, 2024 is Maui to Los Angeles route and on May 15 Honolulu to Los Angeles. More routes will become available.
I’m a big fan of Hawaiian Airlines Airbus 330 and the Dreamliner 787 has significant improvements. First Class has 34 seats instead of the Airbus 18 First Class seats. The configuration is greatly improved with a 1-2-1 seating, for those single travelers who are by the window you don’t have to crawl over the person sitting on the isle. First Class will have privacy doors, 18-inch monitors and wireless chargers.
The main cabin will have 3-3-3 seating with Extra Comfort, Preferred and Standard seating. The seats have ergonomically contoured back and armrests, a 12-inch monitor and USB-A and USB-C charging ports. The plane has larger windows which are electronically controlled.
Hawaiian Airlines highlights the focus on Luxury and Culture with their new fleet.
Governor Announces Maui Plan, West Maui Travel Restrictions To Lift
West Maui, with the exception of Lahaina, will reopen for tourism starting October 8th. This has been a controversial and polarizing subject, some want more time to grieve and adjust to life as they know it now while others don’t want the islands main stream of income (tourism) to cripple the island.
There are 7,500 people that have been moved from shelters to various hotels and Airbnb’s across the island, the Governor said that they will be housed “well into 2025”. The rebuilding of Lahaina is starting with the EPA removing toxic ash, debris and hazardous material from Lahaina. This will take a year along with $1 Billion dollars.
Unsolicited Offer To Buy Lahaina Land. Governor Green stated “We’re committed to rebuilding and restoring it (Lahaina) the way they want it. I want to emphasize this again; the land in Lahaina is reserved for its people. As they return and rebuild, I instructed the attorney general to impose enhanced criminal penalties, including up to a year in prison, on anyone who tries to take advantage of survivors by an unsolicited acquiring of property in affected areas on Maui.”
Kauai Visitor Spending Highest Year To Date In July
Visitor spending had its highest total yet at $264.5 million in July 2023, a 7.7% gain from the July 2022 number of $245.5 million and $201.3 million in July of 2019.
Kauai visitor number in July held steady at 139,771, a slight uptick from July 2022 which was 138,882 and July 2019 139,157
There were 929,386 visitors to the state in the month of July which is a 1.5% uptick from July 2022. Here are the numbers for visitor spending for the other islands:
Oahu
$870.7 July 2023 up from $841.9 July 2022
Maui
$623.4 million July 2023 up from $607.6 July 2022
Big Island
$263 million July 2023 down from $276.7 July 2022 and $221.3 million in July 2019. That marked a decrease of 5.0 percent and an increase of 18.8 percent over the same respective periods of 2022 and 2019.
Oahu, Maui and Big Island Real Estate Year To Date
This will be the first month that we’ll see the Maui real estate numbers since the fires on August 8th. The drop in housing sales looks inline with the other islands, interestingly they are the only island who’s Median Price went up. Their condo sales, which will be impacted more by out of state buyers, are significantly down. The Median Price for condominiums is up on every island but Oahu.
