Suspected Killer On The Run On Kauai
A local Kauai man suspected of killing a Kalaheo man, and critically injuring another person on September 7th successfully evaded police for 10 days, he was “violently” apprehended on Sunday evening. The initial incident happened on Kahili Mountain Road on September 7th, the suspect shot and killed a 28 year old man and critically wounded another person who is now in stable condition at Wilcox.
On the move.
The police alerted the public that the suspect is 6 foot 2 inches, 250 pounds and is considered dangerous. There have been reports of people providing transportation and assistance to the suspect over these last 10 days. The Police initially had Kuamo’o and Ma’alo Road shut down on Wednesday but opened back up later that day. On Friday there were reports of him being on the Westside which resulted in Kekaha Elementary, Waimea High, Canyon Middle School and Ele’ele Elementary being locked down.
Late Sunday evening the police apprehended the suspect near the Kekaha Beach Park, the only information we have at this time is that it ended “violently”. The suspect was transported to Wilcox, no officers were injured.
Petition To Stop Maui Reopening and Delta Flights Scaled Back
Within 24 hours 3,600 people on Maui have signed a petition to delay the reopening of West Maui to visitors. Previously Governor Josh Green announced that West Maui, with the exception of Lahaina, will reopen on October 8th. Around 7,500 residents are in living in hotel rooms spread out over 40 hotels. This was meant to be temporary as the state is working to move people to accommodations with kitchens and more room. From what I’ve seen and heard on the news there are strong feelings on both sides of this issue. The constant has been that if you do go to Maui, be respectful, patient and stay clear of Lahaina.
Delta Airlines is scaling back a couple of it’s flights while at the same time offering up deals to fly to Maui. The Minneapolis and Atlanta to Maui flights have been suspended for now. The nonstop from LAX and Seattle are still going and they will resume their Salt Lake to Maui in December. They are offering deals as low as $99 each way.
