Flying To Hawaii? Pilot Program Exploring Online Agricultural Forms
We all know those agricultural forms that are passed out to us a half hour before landing and a lot of us know how it feels to dig around for a pen to fill it out. That will hopefully be going away with the ability to be able to fill it out online. From March 1 to May 31 there will be a pilot program for some domestic flights allowing travelers to electronically fill out those agricultural forms prior to departure or on the planes wifi.
To see a list of the participating flights click here: Participating Flights
The program is called “Akamai Arrival” and will be available in different languages. Currently only about 60% of the people fill these out which surprised me, I have been scared to not fill them out!!

Petition Out For “Shaka” Emoji
The “Call Me” emoji has been used for the Shaka sign despite the fact that the hand is tilted in the wrong direction. There is a group that is trying to change that by petitioning the “Unicode Emoji Subcommittee” to have a new emoji created just for the Shaka. I didn’t know there was a Subcommittee for Emoji’s but why would there not be?
In June of 2024 the “Shaka” sign was officially designated as Hawaii’s sign and there is more cultural significance to the sign then you might know. The proposal is the tilt the existing “Call Me” emoji 45 degrees upward so it looks more like the gesture.
Project Shaka has made it easy for people to petition for the Shaka emoji by either filling out an online form or sending in a letter. If you would like to participate go to this site; Shaka Petition
South Shore Affordable Housing Project “Lima Ola”
This last month families started moving into Lima Ola which is a brand new, master planned community project is spearheaded by the County of Kauai. Located in Eleele this project will offer both single and multi-family living both for sale and for rent. The properties for sale are leasehold and last month 5 two and three bedroom homes sold with prices ranging from $469,500 to $512,900. The lease rent is $45.00 dollars a month, association dues an additional $45.00 a month.
To qualify to purchase a home you have to be a Kauai resident and a first time homebuyer, take a Hawaii Home Ownership class and qualify by completing a Affordable Housing application.
This is the first phase of what will eventually be 550 affordable housing units. This project was made possible by contributions from a local architect, survey company and Priscilla Chan and Mark Zuckerberg.
Kauai Real Estate Sales Year-To-Date 2025 vs 2024
The leasehold affordable housing sales impacted the South Shore’s Residential Median Price numbers and I believe it will continue to do so as sales are recorded in our MLS. The “Lima Ola” leasehold homes selling in the $400 and $500 price range are a huge boom for our workforce housing and exactly what we need. Solution to this is a more area specific Current Market Analysis.
The condo market continues to show signs of recovery with the number of sales recovering in most areas and the Median Prices improving.
