Kauai Real Estate Update-  Last week on the island, despite the approaching storm, we had a decent amount of activity which included an $8.2+ Million Dollar home that sold before it was listed.  To see the all of the activity on the island last week click here:  Kauai March 9 to 15, 2026

Poipu Beach Real Estate-  The last time a two bedroom on the ground floor in Poipu Sands was available to purchase was in April of 2024 and that was unit #514 , it sold for $2,015,000.  In 2023 unit #114 sold for $1,315,000.
Now, unit #211 is for sale at $1,400,000 and this one is a corner unit which makes it even more special.  This unit has been renovated and has strong rental income with future bookings that convey with the unit.  What I love about #211:  there is no unit above the primary and three side walls that you don’t share.  To see that unit click here:  Poipu Sands #211

The Impacts Of The Kona Storm
The approaching Kona Storm dominated the news last week.  Across the state preparations were made for what was supposed to be a powerful Kona Low.  Schools and businesses closed and shelters were set up in anticipation.
When it was over Kauai was impacted the least of all the islands.  Our power outages were minimal and the total rainfall and wind gusts were some of the lowest in the state.
I was on my Saturday walk and took a video of the Poipu Beach parking lot which literally looked like a lake.  Down the road, a bit past Brennecke’s restaurant, the road was flooded enough to where it was blocked off.  The Waikomo Stream, which is usually pretty calm, was raging.
Here are the stats:

Highest 5 Day Totals Of Rainfall Areas On Each Island
⛈️ Maui-  upcountry Kula area had 44.37 inches
⛈️ Hawaii- in Mauna Loa 25.45 inches
⛈️ Kauai- Wailua River Area 19.38 inches
⛈️ Oahu- Schofield Barracks 19.27 inches

Highest Recorded Wind Speeds
💨 The Big Island sustained wind gusts up to 135 mph in the Kaiaulu Puu Waawaa area
💨 Maui had 108 in Kula
💨 Oahu at Makapuu Beach 81 mph
💨 Kauai in the Waimea area 96 mph

The worst of the damage appears to have been on Maui.  Making the news was footage of a home that had just been built near the Iao Stream and caught on camera was the Iao River that eroded the ground underneath and took out the home.  100,000 Hawaiian Electric customers were without power, airlines cancelled flights and freeways flooded and were shut down.  Of huge concern was the Wahiawa Dam in Oahu which was in danger for a while of overflowing.
Not out of the woods yet.  We have another storm that is approaching but it is not expected to be anything like this one.

Kauai Coffee Company Layoffs Delayed, Talk Continue
The terminations of the employees at Kauai Coffee Company were supposed to start March 14th to the 28th.  But they will now not occur unit April 18th to May 2nd and for now all 136 people still have their jobs.
And business is happening as usual at Kauai Coffee Company.  People are still taking the tours and buying their coffee from employees that are tight lipped about the negotiations.

The statement from the General Manager at Kauai Coffee Company is:   “There are no plans to close Kauaʻi Coffeeʻs operations.  We continue to engage in active discussions with the landowner and remain hopeful that these conversations will lead to a positive outcome.  While we cannot provide a formal update as negotiations remain ongoing, we want to be transparent that the WARN notices will be extended monthly as conversations continue beyond the current lease’s end date.”
Meanwhile, the VP of Brue Baukol Capital Partners, who owns the land the business is on said:  “While negotiations are ongoing, our priority and commitment are to ensure the land continues to support coffee production, local jobs and the preservation of agricultural lands.”
