Hawaiian Airline Employees File Vaccine Mandate Lawsuit
Last Wednesday Hawaiian Airlines vaccine mandate went into effect and a group of Hawaiian Airlines employees filed a lawsuit alleging that this policy violates Federal Law.  It was reported that 270 employees have either taken unpaid leave or have resigned.

Here is the Airlines Statement:
“Following our Jan. 4 COVID-19 vaccination deadline, 96% of our 6,600-plus U.S.-based teammates are immunized, and a limited number of employees received reasonable accommodations.  We know that our vaccine requirement has been a challenging topic, but we have a responsibility to our fellow teammates, guests, and communities to keep each other safe – and vaccines are the most effective protection against the virus. We respect the decision of about 270 of our colleagues to take unpaid leave or seek other job opportunities, and we wish them well.”

Do Vacation Rentals Make Money?
Now that is a question I get asked, a lot.  So last week I did a Facebook Live with the fabulous Linda Sylvester from Koloa Kai Vacation Rentals.  Linda has been doing vacation rentals in the Poipu Area for over 10 years and I have found her to be extremely knowledgeable, so this was a real treat.
During our interview I asked her questions that I get asked all the time and her answers were so spot on, and so interesting, that I created smaller videos of the questions that I asked her.

Here is the first one which is:  “Do vacation rentals make money?”   I think you’ll find her answer very interesting.

Cruising Returns To Kauai
Yesterday, January 10, the Grand Princess arrived on Kauai.  This is the first time since early 2020 that cruising has come back to our island.  The ship originated from California.
The Hawaii Department of Transportation (DOT) said a part of allowing cruising to come back was that 99% of the ships passengers have to be vaccinated.  Those who are not vaccinated must provide a negative COVID test.  Currently Carnival and Norwegian Cruise Lines have agreements with the state of Hawaii allowing them to operate here in the state.

Waimea Landslide
After a week of non-stop rain on January 4th there was a landslide in Waimea located on Kauai’s westside.  The landslide blocked Menehune Road and cut off access to 24 homes.  The landslide also severely damaged the swinging bridge.  The hillside remain unstable.
There is now emergency access however restoring normal access to this road will take several weeks.  Governor Ige signed an emergency proclamation which gives him authority to spend state funds for restoration of this area.
