Alaska Airlines New California to Hawaii Routes
Alaska Airlines is shuffling their flight routes and it appears that Hawaii is a winner starting next year.
On Alaska Airlines website, starting May 13, 2026 a direct seasonal daily flight will start between Burbank and Honolulu. This is not a new flight for Burbank Airport, back in 2005 Aloha Airlines (remember them?!) was providing service between Burbank and Honolulu with their Boeing 737-700’s but, that ended in 2005. Now it’s starting back up again with Alaska.
It’s rumored that there will be another announcement for a route between San Diego airport and Honolulu.
All Signs Point To Amazon Building A Warehouse On Kauai
It appears that Amazon will be building a 42,000 square foot warehouse here on Kauai. This warehouse will bring jobs to our island, more competition to local businesses and faster delivery to people here on Kauai.
Here’s what we know; Ahukini Business Park is being developed. The 14.6 acres of Grove Farm land is just north of the airport and is being developed by a Phoenix based company and is set to open in 2026. To see this new development click here; Ahukini Business Park
The real estate firm that is developing the park has developed Amazon warehouses in Las Vegas, New Mexico and Oregon. Documents have been filed with the County of Kauai that don’t name Amazon but details that are unique to Amazon, along with multiple sources, identify that this is Amazon.
Amazon has invested over $800 Million into the state of Hawaii since 2010. Last year they opened their first distribution center in Oahu and recently have bought 49 acres of land in Kapolei, Oahu.
Should they open one up on Kauai we’d get 169 full and part time jobs with wages at $20.50 an hour. Benefits would include health care, paid parental leave and up to $5,250 in annual college tuition
Lava Fountains on Big Island
Videos and pictures of twin lava fountains have been all over Hawaii’s social media and nightly local news this last week as they reached record heights.
Twin Lava Fountains put on quite a show at Kilauea for 7.5 hours. The fountains were 1,500 feed high and is the highest set of fountains seen to date.
With this spectacular show comes elevated gas levels and volcanic ash that is floating in the air known as “Pele’s Hair” which can cause issues for those with health issues. “Summit Inflation” resumed and I had to look that up, it means that there is a swelling of magma beneath the surface and that is a key indicator that another episode could be possible in the very near future.

Kauai Road Safety Survey
No matter if you live here full or part time, are a visitor or have a second home the County of Kauai would like to hear from you. They are seeking feedback on the roads on Kauai, the form took me just a couple of minutes to fill out and I was never asked for my name or contact information.
There were spots to put additional comments as well.
The purpose of this survey is for the County to pull together the concerns that anyone would have about our roads.

National Real Estate Sales
We’ve looked at the State of Hawaii for the Year-To-Date real estate sales comparing it to the same time last year, but how are things going on a national level? Nationally we see that September 2025 brought 4.06 million in sales, a median sales price of $415,200, and 4.6 months of inventory. The median sales price is up 2.1% year-over-year, and inventory was up 0.4 months from September 2024.
